Weekend in Biarritz

September 29, 2008 - Pau, France

-Biarritz-

Saturday morning H and I hopped onto a train to Biarritz. Biarritz is also in the Pays Basque and is beautiful. Like all trips so far there happened to be a big even that weekend going on. A surf competition was this Saturday so a million surfers covered the shores of the beach. We layed on the beach all day long, had a 3 course dinner and on the way to dinner saw a gorgeous sunset on the beach. Later that night we had a glass of wine at a bar ran into our neighbors at the auberge (hostel) (which is weird because it seems like in such a big country we run into the same people all the time) and got a good nights rest.

The following day (today) we walked the 10 minute walk to the beach and stopped at the market bought a baguette, a banana, a container of nuttella and some milk. We sat on the beach and ate that for breakfast. It was awesome. We had an equally awesome day laying out, tanning and taking in the moments. My neighbor Mathias, his cousin and his friend Pierre met us at the beach and we hung out with them for a while. Mathias also gave us a free ride home back to Pau.

Now I am home and showered from the sand thinking to myself how lucky I am to be here. Though I miss my family and friends often, days like today remind me what I am here experiencing. This week is my last week of intensive electives. Which by the way have been intensive I read half of another book this weekend on the beach and on the train, I am keeping up with my work I just don’t write about it because that’s boring to read! You want to hear about more interesting things than that of course. But yes I have plenty of homework every night I have different reading assignments and I have a blog that I post for a class about the authors I read, I need to start a cultural ethnography and I started a paper about Gertrude Stein while reading my second novel. See I have homework (and I do it ALL) but I neglect to mention that in my posts. I’d rather share the more exciting details of my life. So anyway I hope to get back to Biarritz soon, but there are many other places to go. We are hoping to go to Barcelona in November for a four day weekend we have, Bordeaux is close to go on a train for the weekend, so is Montpellier (which is where Mathias is from and near Marseilles) But we will see and I will keep you all posted.

Love and miss you all.

Xoxo
