Visit to La Punta

March 7, 2008 - Lima, Peru

We were abit bored with Lima and Miraflores so felt like doing something different. Asked one of the owners of the hostel to suggest somewhere... said La Punta so off we went! Was about 25 min taxi ride along the coast, La Punta is a tiny peninsula with not a lot there except a naval base!

We wandered up and down the peninsula along the coast, good views but not many people about. A lot of empty restaurants, I guess it isn't the holiday season though. After a big walk it was pretty late so we decided to have some grub. Ate at a Cevicheria restaurant called Marina, I had sole and chips which was really good. The fish is in nice batter that is not to oily and one big piece but loads of chunks! We were all really full afterwards so just went to sit down on the pebble beach. Watched some birds and the sun set, helped a guy pull in his boat! Then we got a taxi back. Driver told John to wind up window and lock door as we were going through some dodgy places... I didn't hear that so was taking pics and some videos along the way! I will try and get the video up soon. We made it back no prob and went out in the evening for a chap we knows birthday.

We had all become pretty comfortable and despite hearing about needing to be careful had kind of thought we were in a safe place. When we got back in the morn though we heard Michael (it was his bday) had been robbed in taxi on way back to hostel. Driver let 4 guys get in who stole his passport camera and money. Brought it home to us that it is a dodgy place and we need to keep our wits about us. He is fine though and is working at hostel now enjoying himself!

Ciao ###
