Lazing about in Trujillo and Huanchaco

March 12, 2008 - Trujillo, Peru

We got an overnight bus to Trujillo after my 3rd jab at the hospital. Its about 10 hours north of Lima. Got there no probs and saw that our hostel was about 10m from the bus station so we didn't have to bother talking to the dodgy taxi drivers hanging around trying to charge a fortune to take us to a hostel. I am sure if we had not seen it they would have got in and drove in a circle to make some money!!

We unpacked and chilled out for a bit then had a walk down to the Plaza de Armas. Nice and peaceful centre compared to our hostel. Roads were shut so dead quiet and no fumes, if you think pollution is bad in London try any city in Peru! All buildings are painted in one pastel colour, blue or yellow etc so it looks a bit like a lego town centre. After a walk we headed back to hostel and John got some rest as wasn't feeling 100%. Liam and I went to Huanchaco beach and bumped into a guy from our hostel in Lima! He was just heading back south though so had a chat then went for a stroll along the beach. Was a nice place, very laid back but beach was covered in rubbish and dogs can go anywhere they please which is a pain!! We got a sandwich at a tiny place which we ended up visting 3 days in a row!! We headed back afterwards as were pretty beat and tried to get some sleep, quite hard when you are next to a crazy busy crossroads! There is no stopping though, everyone just drives straight and beeps their horn! All night! Its crazy!

We all went to Huanchaco the next day, sat about for a bit then went fishing on peer, Liam and I caught squid things attached to huge rocks! Got bored of that then Liam went for ride on one of the narrow pointed fishing boats called caballitos (little horses) de totora, made from totora reeds. He got absolutely soaked! We got a taxi back afterwards but driver didn't notice puddle under Liam!

The next day we went to a couple of archaeological sites; Huacas del Sol and de la Luna and then on to the ancient ruined city Chan Chan. (also had our 3rd sandwich at the tiny cafe!) I have uploaded a load of pics from these. Will right about these in another entry when I have time!

The next day we were all pretty tired from the big tour day before so packed our bags ready for night bus to Lima and went to Trujillo centre to chill out. Ended up going to the Museo de Zoologica (have uploaded some pics form this!) to kill some time which was amusing! As we were tourist we got charged more! See the pic I have taken of prices! Then we headed back to rest before bus to Lima for our 3rd (and hopefully last!) visit.
