Buenos Aires

April 28, 2008 - Buenos Aires, Argentina

Buenos Aires is a huge place! Our hostel was near a huge road with 7 lanes each side.

We decided to continue to eat a lot of steak in Buenos Aires after two great steaks in Salta. I weighed myself upon arrival and was 69kg, 6.5kg less than when I left England! The aim was to put some of that back on so we began with a steak lunch. We had a bit of a rest and walked about as were feeling pretty tired from a hectic week. We went to a recommended steak house and I ended up eating 3 and a half steaks! I ate the most steak that day, a total 1485g!

We found out that there was a Libertad cup match (equivalent to our European cup in South America) between Boca Juniors (one of the Buenos Aires football teams)and Cruzario, a Brazilian team. I got up at 6am and queued for tickets with all the crazy local fans who were all singing in full voice at this time! Tickets were available through the hostel but were 150 pesos and were seated, I paid 24 pesos for standing tickets! we wanted to stand to soak up the atmosphere and were glad we did so as the crowd was amazing! They did not stop singing for the whole 90 minutes! Even when Cruzario scored a goal (Boca were already 2 nil up) they just kept singing their hearts out! We tried joining in with a few but it was pretty tough! There were groups of guys who were stood on small walls holding the banners which were hung from the stadium roof who just faced the crowd. They didn't watch the game, just start chants off and encourage everyone to sing louder!!

We also had a few nights out, everyone in Buenos Aires stays up really late. We saw people eating at half 3 in the morning! It is a real 24hr city, there is always people about, whatever time of day it seemed to have busy streets. On our last night once again we met with James, Clare and Jon (English couple and American guy) and went to the cinema! There was a huge cinema complex at Recoleta, with many bars, restaurants and shops surrounding it. There was also a good market there too. We watched Ironman, which was shown in English with Spanish subtitles and I ate loads of popcorn! Afterwards, you guessed it, we went for steak! It was our last night so thought we had to make the most of it! Our next stop, and final stop in South America is Chile!
