Santiago

May 3, 2008 - Santiago, Chile

The bus ride from Buenos Aires was not too bad and when we were heading through the snow capped Andes into Chile the views were spectacular. We got straight on the Metro (like London tube) and went to a hostel. Straight away we found out how much more expensive Chile is compared to the rest of South America! Prices are equivalent to England for some goods. We had a walk around the Plaza where there were lots of street entertainers and people selling artwork. After a few drinks in the evening we got some rest and after speaking to some fellow travellers who had  visited the Port at and seeing their pictures of it we decided against going there the next day as we had previously planned. The Port was Industrial and did not look that interesting, plus we would have needed to get a 2hr bus there and back! So we went to see the Flee market where there are apparently lots of goods which have fallen off the back of a lorry but we didn't see anything that great! So next we decided to go to Parque o Higgins where there is a small theme park! We spent a few hours going on the rides, most were just like fairground rides but there was one good roller coaster and a log flume. After the theme park we relaxed and walked around a few shops before getting sorted for our flight out of Santiago. We are heading to New Zealand now! I am sad to see the back of South America as we have been to so many good places!
