Las Matas De Farfan

March 14, 2008 - Las Matas de Farfán, Dominican Republic

Thanks for all of the comments. It makes me feel good to hear from you all. Training is going well. But the hours are long and the air in the city is pretty dirty and smoggy. I can´t wait to get out of the city for the next part of training.  This weekend everyone got paired up with a current volunteer and we are getting the TRUE Peace Corps experience.  I am in Las Matas de Farfan, in the interior of the country in the province of San Juan to the west, and a little south of Santo Domingo.  It is really beautiful out here.  After about a 4 hour bus ride, we walked about 10 minutes down a dirt road to the house where my volunteer lives.  It is what I would have imagined it to be like.  Lots of chickens, cows, dogs, cats, and ducks.  And houses with metal roofs and old Dominican women sweeping thier porches, and hanging clothes out to dry. It´so serene and I can´t wait to get to my own site.  This computer is hard to type on, so this is short. More to come...

Hey there lady. I just read your last entry and it sounds amazing. What an incredible experience you are having. It sounds like a lot of fun. Have you seen one of those huge spiders yet? We just opened back up and it looks amazing. Kind of strange to look around at so many new faces and not see yours. I miss you a ton. Can't wait to read more about your time there. Write back soon. Miss ya
