Well hello!!!
So Im a bit late, I havent had a chance to fill you all in on the rest of our travelling so here you go..... Sorry if you have been like checking everyday and sitting on the edge of your seat till you hear what happened next (like you all should be), I really hope I havent put you out too much!!
Any way so we were in Rome last time we spoke I believe..... Was really good, we met with Kandy and eventually got into our hotel and had a very much needed nap. Went out and started the begining of my Italian pasta and Gelato diet that lasted the whole time I was there..... Soooo good!! Saw the Colosseum and went to the Vatican.... both very impressive. The Colosseum was really good, its massive!! I think Matt really liked it.
From Rome we went to Istanbul in Turkey... and what a battle it was to get there, Three flights, about 6 hour at an airport, a whole day and two very grumpy people on edge!!!! But we both made it with our heads still attached. Turkey was really nice, the city is so exotic with Mosques all over the place. Quite nice, the exchange rate was much better for matt too so he was quite happy. except for the three times that we got ripped off by the taxis!
We were is a tour group to go to Galipolli and part of the tour was a dinner we belly dancing one night in the city.... very entertaining! The next day we had the long bus trip down to Anzac cove so that we could get our stuff sorted out and set up camp for the night. When we got that at 6pm the place was already packed! We had to get searched and patted down on the way in and then we found a pozie in one of the grand stands. we were a bit upset that we didnt get space on the grass but in the end it worked out really well because throughout the evening people kept on arriving by the bus load and went the seats were full they just had to squish them into the grassed area. So by the end of the night the grassed araea was packed and we were quite ok with a bit of space on our seat.... we still didnt sleep though!
So the dawn service was really nice, sad, frustrating and all those other emotions that have been used to describe it. i learnt so much going there and have developed a great deal of respect for the memorial. After that dawn service we set for toward Lone Pine where the Australian cementary is and where they held the Australian service. That was also nice but by the time that finished we were absolutely exhausted! We tried to have a rest before our bus came but just couldnt so we did a bit of wondering... went and had a look at some of the trenches. They were pretty amazing, in some places the two enemy trenches were only about 5 metre apart.
Anyway so we finally jumped on the bus ready to head home... planning to get some sleep, unfortunatly it didnt happen as we had a bus full of Ziwis who decided they wanted to party and get drunk so we were kept awake but also quite entertained at the same time. After Galipolli we came back to Lonodn and went out for dinner for matts last night here.... Yes a big Booo HoOOO.
Next morning got up early and went to the airport to drop him off. said our very sad goodbyes and he was gone. That was it for our whirlwind trip!
So im back at work now trying to refresh my bank balance!!! Its got huge problems at the moment. couldnt work Thursday though because they had the local elections here and they use the school as the polling stations so I only got four days. Then next week Monday is a public holiday so anothe four day week.... Im really annoyed!
Anyway, would loveĀ to hear from you all, to know whats happening, Hope this isnt too boring, but at least you know Im still alive and kicking!!!
Love you all lots
Love Ash
