After a long and rainy day, basically spent indoors for the most part, we slept off some more jet lag and hung out around the house. Later that evening, we decided to go out into town again… Grace was working on a project, so we took Jensine with us this time. As it happens, we ran into Grace on Magsaysay Drive, so she joined us as we walked around a bit together, before splitting off. Mom and dad went their way, and Boober, Jensine, Grace and I went ours. We ended up in a little bar called Brew Bistro, nothing much to write home about, live music and drinks that weren’t all that great… but meh. Dad called us, so we met up with him and mom at this place called Mixmu Bar. I remember Grace asking me if I was sure this was where they were, and the guard opened the door, with sounds of Freddie Aguilar streaming out… so I said, “Oh yeah, 20 bucks says this is the place!” Sure enough, mom and dad were inside, clapping and singing along. A few rounds of drinks, and it’s evident that mom is plastered! Now if you’ve ever been out with her in the past, you’d know that she’s a riot!! Before long she was dancing and singing and having a good old time. By this time, Grace had her head on the table… proclaiming that it was all Boober’s fault because he was ordering Tequila Sunrises and making her drink all the tequila… not sure how he managed to drink just the sunrise… but it was funny. There was a guy singing who sounded just like Freddie Aguilar, which really made mom and dad’s night. They also had a live band… some young kids, pretty good voices, and an awesome guitarist, who was really jammin’ out, enough so that he got dad’s praise. Mom had given me her wallet beforehand and made me the designated sober person, so by then I had switched my drinks over to water and was enjoying everyone else’s drunkenness. Around 1am, the tab hit 2300 pisos, which is about the limit mom told me not to exceed. I cut everyone off and with the help of my dad, we got everyone corralled and out the door.
We got on the jeepney without a hitch, and wandered on down to the other station pretty much without incident, except for once, when Grace stopped in the middle of the road to start crying. Dad just told Boober to get her walking or carry her, but she wasn’t standing there. Only one time was pretty scary, we were waiting for the jeepney into New Cabalon, and this kid hopped out of the back of the jeepney, and started talking smack to Boober. Saying he looked at him the wrong way and stuff like that. It would have been comical had he not switched open a shiny blade at his side. Boober grabbed my wrist and kinda pushed me back, and told the guy he wasn’t starting anything, and dad told the guy to put the knife away and get back on the jeepney. Obviously the guy was drunk, his girlfriend hopped off and told him to get back on the jeepney, and mom and Jensine and Grace were oblivious to the whole scene, off to the side, giggling like schoolgirls. It was a little scary, I’ll admit. Dad was saying how we have no idea what it’s like in the city… and to a certain degree he’s right. But also, he forgets that this is the world we [Boober and I] live in now. That we’re exposed to the nature of the city more than he is, mainly because he doesn’t go out as often as we do, and that when we go out clubbing or to the bars, it’s pretty commonplace. Not the first time I’ve been in a group when someone pulled a knife, I’m certain that it won’t be the last, even though I’d prefer to avoid confrontations like that altogether. We got on the next jeepney, mom trying to pretend she wasn’t drunk… she kept insisting that she had only had 2 beers! Anyways, the driver was laughing because mom was so funny, telling him how much she loved everyone, and that the girls were her favorite nieces and how I was her favorite daughter. She thought she was ‘it’ passing money back and forth and giving directions. Everyone just did the ‘nod and smile’ and her and the girls kept giggling between each other. We finally got home, stumbling up the hill… mom made a few pit stops to um… get rid of the contents of her stomach! We managed to snap some pretty incriminating pictures of her when she fell in the bushes and fell coming into the house, and also when she mooned us! All in all, it was a pretty fun night… at the very least, we proved yet again that there’s no sense in wasting money on a comedy club when mom’s around. Not sure how she’s gonna feel in the morning, but one thing is for certain… she was feeling good tonight!
