Videoke, Roasted Pig and a Good Time for All!

November 25, 2007 - New Cabalan, Philippines

First thing this morning we headed into Tipo to go to the Iram Resettlement Area so that we could see an Aeta village. Mom and Dad had met a couple earlier near SBMA and they invited us out to see their home. Their names were Rolly and Anita Anatasia. It was quite an experience to go up there, and I do mean up… since we had to climb yet another mountain to get there. The Ita’s are still suffering from a lot of discrimination and racial prejudice…which is even sadder, since most of them were displaced due to Mt. Pinatubo. Anyways, we ended up buying a blow dart gun and some crossbows that they had made. Laurel was really shy, which we thought was funny, until she saw the naked baby running around! We made our way back down the mountain and took a tricycle home to prepare for the party.

Back at the house, the boys were preparing to kill the pig to start the lechon. Jeannette and May showed up and started chopping vegetables and preparing the food for the pancit. I made lumpia, chopping the vegetables really small and rolling the lumpia. With the pig on the roast, and the food cooking, the videoke machine arrived in time to start the evening’s entertainment. Boober and Dad started hitting the Jim Beam around noon and took turns with the girls singing. Around 4pm, family and friends started rolling in, with Tito Ramir showing up, Marlo and family and lots more. By now Dad and Boober and Mike were pretty slaughtered and took over the videoke machine. As the evening wore on, the singing was getting funnier and the drinking increased, so basically I think it was safe to assume that everyone was having a good time. Auntie Luding and Auntie Darlene eventually made their way out to dance and sing with everyone as well. We had a great time as far as a nice, fun, family get together.
