All good things came to an end

July 10, 2008 - Chicago, Illinois, United States

“When you travel, you experience, in a very practical way, the act of rebirth. You confront completely new situations, the day passes more slowly, and on most journeys you don’t even understand the language the people speak. So you are like a child just out of the womb. You begin to attach much more importance to the things around you because your survival depends upon them. You begin to be more accessible to others because they may be able to help you in different situations. At the same time, since all things are new, you see only the beauty in them, and you feel happy to be alive.”

-Paul Coehlo

Bonjour folks! After

.8 days, 7 nights
.planes/trains/buses traveled
.about $1200 of my saved money spent (pre-trip and trip)
.meeting ppl from all over the world
.practicing my French
.reading a plethora travel books
.climbing the hilly streets of Quebec City
.biking cosmopolitan Montreal
.spending quality time w/myself
.being "Stripped of your ordinary surroundings, your friends, your daily routines, your refrigerator full of food, your closet full of clothes - with all this taken away you are forced into direct experience. Such direct experience inevitably makes you aware of who it is that is having the experience. That's not always comfortable but it is always invigorating." Michael Crichton

I AM BACK

What do I miss the most?

"To awaken alone in a strange town is one of the pleasantest sensations in the world." -Freya Stark

But I gained these:

"Let your memory be your travel bag." -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

"Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living." -Miriam Beard

"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes." -Marcel Proust
