In the footsteps of Captain Cook (kind of)

May 4, 2008 - Auckland, New Zealand

"I had ambition not only to go farther than any man had ever been before, but as far as it was possible for a man to go."
Captain James Cook

OK, so my long arduous flight from Narita to Australia, uncomfortable bench kipping in Sydney Airport (G'day!!) and onward trip to New Zealand squeezed into a seat next to a real life giant (he should have had 2 seats man) cannot quite be held as a comparison to James Cooks voyage to the Pacific...

However upon landing in Auckland, the realisation that I was now actually on the other side of the world hit me like a big wet Maori Club to the face.

The jet lag pushed to one side, I was joyously reunited with Nicola after nearly 5 months of being apart (cue romantic and cheesy music please) where we spent a great couple of days in Auckland before picking up the camper van...(cue more romantic and cheesy music - for those that know of my love of vehicles you can sleep in)

The van has been nicknamed Jonah Lomu and is basically a converted Ford transit. It has a shower and a loo and is going to be our home for the next 26 days!

PS. Pictures of everything up to now to follow; blame the Kiwi internet which is sloth-like at best..

Alright chaps! This time last year we were campervaning in NZ, many good memories, sure it'll be good for you too! Remember, if you go to queenstown, to jump off the Canyon Swing! I hope is not too cold, lol!
Have fun!

Hi Baz & Nicola,
Glad you're having the time of your life while I'm stuck in sunny North Wales with a hormonal (read whining!) pregnant Wife!
All joking aside, we're really enjoying your updates. You're like a modern day Willie Fog (Google it), complete with questionable hair!

Tommo & Corrina
