G'day!
I've just spent the afternoon at the beach (Coogee beach to be exact) and although I didn’t have the guts to swim, I did paddle up to my knees! It wasn’t too cold! It’s a nice beach tho (despite being directly under the flight path into Sydney airport!) very clean with nice sand.
Had a nice easy day yesterday as well, to recover from heatstroke (clever me). I got up late, wandered round the shops, saw Mr & Mrs Smith at the cinema (good film) then had a cheap but yummy pizza and choc cake before heading back to the hostel to read my book.
The day before however! Not at all easy going! Went on a day trip to the Blue Mountains. Stupidly early start (mainly cause I set my alarm clock 2hrs early by accident-doh!) First stop was the Olympic park. Bit disappointing as we didn’t get to see inside the stadium or anything. All we saw were the totem poles dedicated to those who volunteered to help during the games. No Gatherns listed. No surprise there. Next stop was Featherdale Wildlife Park, where...wait for it...I STROKED A KOALA!!! sooooooooooo cute!!! All fluffy and soft
I also got to pet kangaroos and wallabies, and I held a lizard. It pee-d whilst I did so. There must be something about me.
After our wildlife encounters, we headed off into the Blue Mountains. Apparently we chose a very gd day to go see them, as they were especially blue that day. We stopped off on the cliff top where The Darkness filmed one of their videos, and walked down hundreds of steps to see a (rather dinky!) waterfall. Cue heart attacks on the way back up. We also went to another nice lookout to see the 3 Sisters rock formation; however by this time I felt too queasy to walk to the best vantage point. Damn heatstroke. After a picnic lunch of a banana and a milky way (I cldn’t stomach anything else) we walked down thousands of steps this time, til we were about a third of the way from the bottom of the valley. Saw the 3 sisters again, much clearer this time. Then we boarded the Worlds Steepest Railway to take us back up to the top. (No WAY was I climbing all those stairs back up!) And that was pretty much it. Not bad for $60. Sadly tho, the journey home was spent listening to Gareth and Shane (our tour guide) making small talk. And believe me, an aussie making small talk with a welsh guy is not entertaining in the slightest!
