What can I say about NYC...only that it was the best trip ever! So much to see and do, you'll never get bored! We stayed for 10 days even and still we didnt get to see and do everything. In this journal I'm gonna give you a review of all the things we've done and seen. And some great tips too
I'll try to keep it short, and some of the reviews I will post with the pics.
Well first lets start with the hostel we stayed in...Jazz on the Park. It was about the only accomodation we could afford. And still it was 50 usd a person a night. It is quite a famous hostel so we though that it would be ok. Boy were we wrong. When we first arrived it seemed ok, nice lounge, nice people. But then we were send to a secondary building right around the corner. This turned out to be a lot less nice...I still have nightmares about the cockroaches...so we dubbed it "The Cockroach Inn" I can still see the creepy crawlers crawling under the crack of our door...and one hid in my pyjamas one night, aarghhh!! The bathrooms were really dirty and housekeeping didn't stop by too often to give use clean linnens and towels. But then again, we didn't come to new york to stay in our hostel or for the great food. We ate breakfast in the lounge every morning, which wasnt too bad, then we went to a grocery store to buy lunch for on the way and off we went! Before we went on our trip, and I recommend this to everyone, we booked the shows, games and everything we wanted to see. Dont leave everything to last minute!And first thing we bought was the New York Pass. We went on all tours included on the pass and they were all wonderful! We also made an effort not to stick to just manhattan, but see the outer boroughs too. Plenty to see there too! I especially love the ethnic neighbourhoods, you have 2 chinatowns, but little Italy and Brighton Beach (little russia) were my favourites. The food over there is way cheaper too. Talking about the foodexperience...we didn't have many good ones in NYC. I had the worst and the best pizza ever there. The worst being the pepperoni pizza at NY Aquarium, and the best at Lombardi's in Little Italy. Most restaurants were overpriced and had crap food and crap service. We found another good diner with good affordable food and good service, it was called Red Flame Coffeeshop, located between 5th avenue and avenue of the americas, on 67 W 44th street. Awesome greek food We also booked tickets for the opera, Die Fledermaus, at the Met, and for the Producers on broadway. Both were awesome. We went to see a Knicks vs Nets game at madison square garden, unfortunately the knicks lost, but we had fun celebrity spotting We went on the Movie/TV tour and the Sopranos tour, so we got to see some of New Jersey too. Both are recommendable! Included in the pass were the United Nations tour, and its not all a snooze, dont worry. Theyve got some great artwork in there too The CNN tour was awesome, you got to go behind the scenes and even practise in front of a blue screen if you wanted. Tour of the NBC studio also included seeing the set where SNL is recorded. Looks so big on tv, but is it ever small! Another tour was of Lincoln centre. Behind the scenes at the NY Ballet, we got to see a little bit of the Nutcracker. Then on to the Metropolitan Opera. We even went to Juilliard school of music, but it was closed for tours at the time due to the holidays. And my favourite tour of all...the Radio City Music Hall. You got to see the private residencies, the fascinating history of it all, a bit of the rockettes show, and we even got to meet one of the rockettes. Also, we wanted to go see a stand-up comedy show, and we choose rodney dangerfield's club. We had reserved tickets, but its no use really!! Its really more of a first come, first go policy...and unfortunately we werent there early enough, and the place was full already. We went inside, they made us wait at the bar, and said that if somebody left we can go in and see the show. So we left

Wat kan ik zeggen over NYC...alleen dat het de meest geweldige stad ooit is!!! Zoveel te zien en te doen, je verveelt je nooit! We zijn 10 dagen gebleven, en nog steeds hebben we niet alles kunnen zien. In deze blog zal ik jullie een korte omschrijving geven van de dingen die we gezien en gedaan hebben. En uiteraard de tips! Zal het zo kort mogelijk houden, en sommige commentaren worden bij de fotos geplaatst. Laten we als eerste beginnen bij het hostel waar we verbleven...Jazz on the Park. Het was zo'n beetje het enige wat we konden betalen, en nog was het 50 USD pp p nacht. Het hostel is best beroemd dus we dachten dat is wel ok...hadden wij het even bij het verkeerde eind! Toen we eerst aankwamen leek het wel ok, leuke lounge, aardige mensen. Maar toen werden we naar een tweede gebouw gestuurd, paar straten verderop. Dit was een stuk minder mooi...lol heb nog steeds nachtmerries van de kakkerlakken. Toen hebben we het voor de gein maar de Cockroach Inn genoemd.Ik zie ze nog zo onder de deur door kruipen..en eentje had er zich in mn pyjama verstopt op een avond, aaahhhhh!!!!De badkamers waren erg smerig en de huishouding kwam niet al te vaak langs om ons schone handdoeken en linnen te brengen. Maar goed, we zijn niet naar NYC gekomen om in ons hostel te blijven en om geweldig eten te eten. Elke morgen hadden we ontbijt in de lounge, wat niet slecht was, en daarna liepen we naar het kleine hoekwinkeltje om wat lunch te kopen voor we op pad gingen. Voordat we naar NYC vertrokken,(en ik raad dit iedereen aan!) hebben we alle shows die we wouden bezoeken geboekt. Laat het niet tot het laatste moment over!!En als eerste hebben we de NY Pass gekocht. We hebben alle tours gedaan op de pas en ze waren allemaal geweldig! We hebben ook erg de moeite gedaan om alle buurten te bezoeken, niet alleen Manhattan, maar ook de Outer Boroughs( Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx)
Erg interessant en ook genoeg te doen! Ik vond de kleine etnische buurten het meest geweldig, je hebt 2 chinatowns, maar Little Italy en Brighton Beach(little russia) waren mn favorieten. Het eten daar is ook een stuk goedkoper. Over eten gesproken...erg veel goede ervaringen met eten hebben we niet gehad in NYC...heb daar de slechtste en de beste pizza ooit gehad. De beste bij Lombardi's in little italy en de slechtste bij het NY Aquarium. De meeste restaurants waren veel te duur met slecht eten en slechte service. We hebben wel een geweldige griekse diner gevonden met lekker en goedkoop eten, de Red Flame Coffeeshop tussen 5th avenue en avenue of the americas. We zijn ook naar de Metropoliton Opera geweest, naar Die Fledermaus, en naar De Producers op Broadway. Beiden waren geweldig. Ook zijn we naar de Knicks vs Nets basketbalwedstrijd geweest in madison square garden. Helaas verloren de Knicks die avond...maar we hadden wel lol met celebrity spotten

Beide tours zijn aan te raden Ook inbegrepen in de NY pass was de united nations tour, en het was toch niet zo saai als ik verwacht had...ook veel mooie kunstwerken binnen. De tour van de CNN studios was geweldig! Je mocht achter de schermen en je mocht zelfs oefenen voor zon blauw scherm. Op de NBC studio tour kreeg je de set waar saturday night live is opgenomen te zien. Lijkt zo groot op tv, maar is toch zo klein! Vervolgens de Lincoln centre tour, waar je achter de schermen mocht bij het metropoliton opera, NY ballet, waar we een stukje zagen van de Nutcracker, en vervolgens naar Juilliard school of music. Die helaas geen rondleidingen gaf tijdens de feestdagen Mn grote favoriet was toch de Radio City Music Hall tour. Je kreeg zelfs de prive apartmenten te zien, de hele historie, een beetje van de rockettes show, en we hebben zelfs een van de rockettes ontmoet! We wilden ook een stand-up comedy show zien, dus hebben we reserveringen gemaakt bij rodney dangerfields club. Niet nodig, want het maakte niks uit of je nou reserveringen had of niet. Wie het eerst komt heeft plaats...helaas waren wij te laat...klein stukje gezien van de zijkant en toen maar teruggekeerd. Ik zal de rest van de reviews bij de fotos plaatsen, uiteindelijk word het allemaal tweetalig, maar heb even geduld...
