About to Start the Road Trip

November 3, 2008 - Queenstown, New Zealand

We've had 4 nights here in Queenstown and its been great. Once again we've been lucky with the weather although it was cold on the first day or two. The forecast is for it to get a bit worse tonight and tomorrow with snow a possibility so we're glad to be moving on.

We've managed to fit in a few activities here, though nothing too extreme! We went up the (near vertical) gondola to Bob's Peak which overlooks the town and has some great views from the top. Up there they've got a luge track which we had a couple of shots on and there was no stopping Cara once she got the hang of it! We also took a leisurely cruise on Lake Wakatipu which the town sits on.

Yesterday was the highlight as we went for a tandem parasail 'flight' on the lake. We got up to a few hundred feet and were going for about 15 minutes with Cara screaming in terror the whole way! It was great fun though and there are some photos of it on Flickr you can see here.

We're off for more extreme sports today - frisbee golf first and perhaps some kayaking on the lake. There's a bowling green here too but we're both a bit scared to try that out!

Later this afternoon we pick up a wee campervan and are heading up north via the west coast. Not sure how far we'll get today so we'll just be taking it as it comes.

As the Littlest Hobo would say (sing along now)...

THERE'S A VOICE,
THAT KEEPS ON CALLING ME.
DOWN THE ROAD,
IS WHERE I'LL ALWAYS BE.
EVERY STOP I MAKE,
I'LL MAKE A NEW FRIEND.
CAN'T STAY FOR LONG, JUST TURN AROUND AND I'M GONE AGAIN.

MAYBE TOMORROW, I'LL WANNA SETTLE DOWN,
UNTIL TOMORROW, I'LL JUST KEEP MOVING ON

Weather here? Well you don't really want to know, you'll find out soon enough!
