Angkor Temples and fun in Siem Reap

August 6, 2007 - Siem Reap, Cambodia

Hello!
Well I have now been in Siem Reap five days. Had a traumatic bus journey here where this guy wouldn't let me on the bus for some reason and I bent my toenail back and it bled! Eventually after a big argument in the view of everyone else on the bus he let me on!
When I got to Siem Reap I met Steph, who I had met previously in Vietnam. She was great because she planned everything we were going to do! We spent two days going around all the Angor temples, including Angkor Wat the worlds largest religious structure. The temples were built between 802 and 1432 AD and simply breath taking. We also saw an amazing sunset from the top of one of the temples, Pre Rup but Cambodian Internet is very temperamental and has only let me upload this one photo! Its not even a very good one! It is one of the many heads from the temple of Bayon in Angkor Thom.

Yesterday Steph had gone so I got a motorbike taxi out to Beng Melai which is abaout and hpur and a half away from most of the other temples. I is completely overgrown and you have to scramble through it. Or fall over and bruise your shin in my case....again I will try another day with the photos!
I was hoping to do a couple of weeks volunteer work here but the American charity I was hoping to help out with has not started its English teaching program yet. Tomorrow I am taking them the books though and hopefully having a look at some of the work they do.
I haven't found Cambodia the easiest place to travel round on my own, although Siem Reap is easier it is full of tourists so more expensive! It has great bars and restaurants though!
I have just booked a flight to Singapore for Saturday which should be good, am going to spend eight days making my way up to Kuala Lumpa where I am meeting Fenia.
Hope everyone is good
Claire
