Hello!
Once again I can't find the wire to upload my photos but here is what we have been up to!
The first day Fenia was here we went to a shopping mall with an indoor amusement park! We went on quite a few rides until I felt really sick! That evening we went out in Kuala Lumpur with the two Swedish girls. Found a bar where happy hour meant free cocktails for an hour which was fine with us!
Next day we flew over to Borneo and on Tuesday we went to Sepilok Orangutan sanctuary which was cool, there were a lot of people there for feeding time but we sat around after and saw a few more monkeys as well. Next headed in to the jungle to Uncle Tans camp! This was amazing, one of the best things I have done in Asia. We had to take an hour boat ride into the jungle to get to our camp, which was very basic (we had to wash in brown river water!) But was lots of fun.We did boat trips to spot wildlife as well as treks. In our three days we spotted lots of different monkeys, frogs, tarantulas(!),huge lizards, snails, kingfishers and other pretty birds. We were kind of upset we didn't see an orangutan in the wild but as we were putting our bags in the boat to leave we saw one in the tree above us! Which was amazing and much different to seeing them in the sanctuary.
Fenia learnt a lesson about wearing low cut trousers in the jungle when she got a big leech stuck in her bum crack- much to my amusement.
Yesterday we headed off to turtle island for the night. We had the day snorkeling on the island. We saw this really weird fish that lives in a hole (you will have to wait for the photo to appreciate it!) In the evening we watched a film on turtles and had dinner than all had to wait around in the canteen for a turtle to turn up. Unfortunately because the weather wasn't too good they put all 40 of us in one big group so when a turtle did turn up we ran down to the beach and scared it off! So we all headed to the hatchery and saw them burying the eggs and where the baby turtles had hatched out of their nests. Then the babies were taken to the sea and released, which was very cute. Next there was a shout that another turtle had come on o the island! The stampede wasn't so bad this time so we managed to watch this huge green turtle lay about 80 eggs!! Which made it all worth while!
Now we are back in Sandakan and heading to Singapore in a couple of hours.
Lots of love
Claire
