About us
Where to start... We've been together for over 4 years now. We met in university, where Dave was a hockey ref and Daniela was the timekeeper. At the same time Daniela moved in with Dave's aunt Lori and her two girls and that's how she met all of Dave's family before they even started dating. So you could say it was meant to be
.
Dave's got his BSc in Chemistry and is working for Air Canada, which is how he can afford to travel so much. Daniela finished her BSc in Archaeology. After taking some time off between our first degrees and the next we wanted to take some (or a lot of) time off to help us focus. And before we settle down, we needed to explore the world a bit more and have some "couple time". Now that we are back, which by the way is wonderful despite the fact that we very much enjoyed travelling, we'll both be going back to school in September, first to upgrade and then for a second degree.
About our trip
We're at the end of our trip now. We've been going since January and have seen A LOT.
First we flew into Kathmandu and explored the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. From there we worked our way west towards Pokhara and Lumbini. After crossing the border into India we saw the ghats in Varanassi, the Taj Mahal in Agra, Delhi, the Rajasthan desert, Mumbai, the backwaters of Kerala and finally Bangalore and the amazing archaeological site at Hampi. From India we flew into Bangkok and on to Mae Hong Son in northern Thailand. From there we went south to Chiang Mai, Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and then to the islands Koh Samui and Koh Tao for some relaxing and scuba diving. We spent about 5 days in Bangkok and then flew to Nah Trang in Vietnam. We did a circle in the south and saw Dalat, Lak Lake, Buon Ma Thuot and Ho Chi Minh City. From Vietnam we crossed the border into Cambodia where we visited Phnom Penh and the temples of Angkor near Siem Reap. Then we went further north into Laos where we saw Don Det, one of the 4000 islands, Pakse and the Bolaven Plateau. In the north of Laos we went to Vientiane, Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang and Luang Nam Tha. In China we spent 6 weeks, which is more than anywhere else, but it's also the biggest out of all the countries we visited. We saw the southwestern provinces of Yunnan and Sichuan, which are similar to Laos and Northern Thailand to a certain extent. The cities of Jinghong, Dali, Lijiang and Shangri-La were the most beautiful. We then continued north to a town called Litang, very close to Tibet and that was by far the place we felt was the most spiritual and friendly of all of China. After that we saw the large sitting Buddha in Leshan, the Terracotta Warriors in Xian, the Summer Palace and the Forbidden City (and many more) in Beijing. We continued down the coast to the German brewery town of Qingdao and on to the metropolis of Shanghai. That was our last stop before Germany and Canada.
The following are countries we've visited on this and previous trips. That list will be updated as we explore more places in the world.
