2013 Eastern Trip Tampa to Advance, NC

June 13, 2013 - Tampa, Florida, United States

We started our 2013 Eastern Trip on June 13.  We bought our Tiffin Phaeton motorhome in Aug. 2006.  Since then we have enjoyed many wonderful trips.  Our first trip in 2006 was to SC so we could hike in the mountains.  In Nov. 2006 we drove to the Grand Canyon and camped there for a few days.  We hiked to the bottom of the canyon with my sister and her husband.  We spent the night and hiked out the next day.  That was an awesome experience.  The longest and best trip was an eleven month trip out west.  We have been to 39 states, and have put  41,000 miles on the motorhome.  Last year we installed a residential refrigerator and a dishwasher.  Any of you that know Richie, know that the dishwasher made him a happy camper!  These were two great additions to our motorhome.  We will travel through 12 different states on this trip and will only add one new state (Delaware), but  we will be exploring many new areas in some of the states we will visit.  We will be  going to my class reunion, visiting several family members, and some old friends.  We are looking forward to another new adventure.

We spent our first weekend with our family on our annual family camping trip.  Our oldest great grandson rode to the campground with us and stayed in the motorhome with us for the weekend.  He had a beaming smile on his face for the whole ride.  We cooked out, went to the pool, rode bikes, fished, and visited.  A great weekend as always!  Next stop was at the freightliner shop in Gaffney, SC for service on the motorhome.  Lo and behold, they didn’t find any problems and we were on our way the same day!  We had lunch at the famous Beacon Restaurant in Spartanburg.  The restaurant is famous for JC Strobel, a blind man who hollers out your order to the cooks.  If you are not ready he tells you to step out of line and come back when you are ready.  Their specialty is a BeaconBurger, which is a burger covered with fries and onion rings.  Some reviews said the food was greasy, but we found it not to be greasy at all.  Our next stop was Forest Lake Thousand Trail (TT) Campground in Advance, NC on

June 19 for 5 nights.  This is one of our favorite campgrounds, because the Richard Childress Winery is only about seven miles away.  We had a delicious lunch there twice.  And of course, we had to buy some of their good wine!   We also drove to Pinehurst, NC to meet friends, John and Kathy, who we met in MI last year.  Pinehurst is famous for it’s golf tournaments and will be the site for the 2015 US Open.  We enjoyed walking around the town with John, Kathy, and Leonard (their dog), and having a nice meal with them.  It was really fun to see them again.  Next stop is Erie, PA on June 27 for a week.
