Hickory Run State Park & Timothy Lake South RV

September 3, 2013 - White Haven, Pennsylvania, United States

We moved to the Hickory Run State Park campground in White Haven, PA from East Stroudsburg, PA on Sept. 3.  It was a really pretty state park, but we only had power hook up so we had to use water from our tank for a  week.  That means that we had to go and shower in the park showers, so we could conserve water in our tank.  The showers had no heat, the shower curtains were ripped, and the very high windows were open.  The water was barely lukewarm, so we froze taking showers.  The area was really nice, so that helped make up for the shower problems.  We drove down to the Lehigh Gorge State Park and rode our bikes for a 20 mile round trip ride along the Lehigh River.  We were riding along the gorge and river all the way, so it was a great ride with beautiful scenery.  Hickory Run State Park has a huge boulder field that was formed by glaciers.  We had fun climbing on the rocks.  We moved back to Timothy Lake South RV Resort in East Stroudsburg on Sept. 10 for two weeks.  While we were there, one of the motorhomes caught on fire at 10:00 pm one night.  We heard a lot of yelling, and when we looked out the window, we could see a large glow in the sky.  We went outside and watched it burn up in just a few minutes time.  The wind was very calm that night.  The night before it was blowing 20 mph, so we probably would have had to evacuate.  Luckily, the people and their dog got out, but they lost their cat in the fire.  The park manager let them stay in a cabin for free for two weeks, and we all took up a donation for them.  Everything they had burned up, including their ID, money, medicine, etc.  They lived in their motorhome full time, so it was really devastating for them.  We went to Black Eddy, PA and rode our bikes on the Delaware Canal Towpath for a 20 mile round trip ride.  The canal was really pretty at the beginning, but it dried up completely after a few miles.  There was a covered bridge and several low bridges to ride under.  On the way back to the campground we went to Nazareth, PA and drove by the homes of Indy Car legends Mario, and his son Michael Andretti.  Of course, that gave Richie a thrill!  On Sept. 24, we moved to Catskill Adventure RV Resort in Wurtsboro, NY for two weeks.
