Nordeney to Vlieland to Amsterdam

July 22, 2007 - Ijmuiden, Netherlands

From Helgoland we motored most of the way to Nordeney as the winds were unfavjorable. Quite a nice marina but so packed in that we hitched onto others and dangled out over the passage way/. Overnight all of us rested on the bjottom since the low tide awas so low that we became immobile. In the morning we were among the first to leave to avoid another low tide and thus the windjow to gjo to Vlieland sjome 85 nm away. We gjot into extreme winds and acutually achieve 10.1 knots a record i know i will never. see again. we were in force 7 winds over 30 knots and gustin to 36. running with the wind we made marvellous time and arrived several hours ahead of our calculated time . good thing too because it was getting dark and also the rain was intense. We were following another yacht most of the way and while going into the lane to get to the marina 3 nm away for some strange reason he turned back and reentered the maelstorm. . 5 minutes later 3 rescue crafts came flying past us and into the rain out of sight. later one returned and gave us an escort to the marina which also was FULL and again we tied to the other boats and wrung out our wet things. . one night there and off to Amsterdam at 6 am. we were i think the first ones out and suppose at 8 am the place would be positively jammed as everyone will be trying to get out. we beat the rush. not too good winds direction wise and unfortunately i discovered a damaged boom and decided it must be replaced and hope to do so tomorrow so we can get back on the trail. Seems maybe a flying gyb bent it. force 6 wids did a job. So we are sitting here at n52-27.5 e4-33.6 sunday night waiting for the sun to rise so i can find a boom that fits! could be a few days
