Half way across the Atlantic
December 2, 2007
December 2. We are half way across. At longitude 37 54 and lat 14 21. It has been 11 days of constant rocking of Sharon. The waves are larger than the Baltic Sea but certainly very manageable. The boat rocks about every 6 seconds to one side or the other. Also some up and down from bow to stern. Some crew were ill AT the first but we all are used to it now. Waves are 1 to 3 meters. Spoke to only one passing ship which was 24 nov when I asked about weather in the remainder to Caribbean. . Ship was the ASIAN SPIRIT. Said no adverse weather all the way and so far it has been true. Seen no ships since. Only water. Skies are seldom clear and we occasionally get rain but no problems. We are working 3 hour shifts on the helm round the clock with some modifications during the day but seem to suit everyone nicely. Food is good we are eating well and always grazing on snacks so no complains there. Have gotten used to sleeping in short bursts and never really getting deep long sleeps but surviving with the adaptation. We all know this will end in 10 to 13 days so everything is endurable. We have plenty of free time to read books or listen to music or just enjoy the beauty of the sea. Birds are out here would you believe! How do they do it? Flying fish are visable and one landed and died on Sharon’s deck. They have two fins that are shaped like perfect wings and glide for 30 or so meters to escape being eaten I guess. We have no phone contact as our sat phone refuses to find a satellite, otherwise we would make better contacts. Do not know where the ARC ralley boats are and am hoping to see some one soon but it is really big ocean. Stars twinkle all night and sunrises and sunsets are always welcome and each one is different. Took a swim today to celebrate the half way point. Neither bruce nor joe wanted to get in but it was very refreshing for me. Needed a bath anyway. Water was warm as it is the tropics you know. Very salty too. Air temp seems to be rising and barometer is constant so do not expect any foul weather in the near future. We have crossed one time zone so far and have set our clocks back one hour. Will do that twice again at long 45 and long 60. St Lucia is long 61 so only 1350 nautical miles left. Skipper Dennis 12:30 2nd December 2007

congratulations seem to be in order, celebrations there must be aplenty. Query, how were you able to send a contribution half way across. Did you connect up to some wandering satelite? Anyways good to hear you all survived the journey even though the rockin' and rollin' went on for just a little too long.
