The Joyous Return of the Camera

March 28, 2008 - Santiago, Chile

Yesterday, I finally got around to going to the Canon repair shop to get an estimate for my camera. When I got there, I gave the camera to the person at the front desk. I was telling him what happened and when it happened, but he had already fixed the camera. He just forced the lens to shut, and it became unstuck. I didn't want to apply any force for fear of causing further damage. But.... ya. Now it's fixed and they didn't charge me anything for their 30 seconds of time!

Classes were canceled today due to protests or the prospect of them. I also got an email from the U.S. State Department saying to avoid certain areas. I learned that the protests stem from an incident where some students were assassinated during the dictatorship. Since then, there have been protests, usually involving violence, tear gas, etc.

Tomorrow there is an unofficial event for our program: were having a BBQ!! We're renting a space in a local park where there are grills available. We all threw in $7 to buy PiscoSour ( a popular drink in Chile, the recipe for which the director say is "part of his genetic code" ), beef, pork, chicken, and other BBQ supplies.

Now I will proceed to post some pictures.

Yay....I'm looking forward to seeing lots more pictures! It doesn't seem like it will be possible to finish your classes, with all the cancellations. How many have you had? Keep on posting updates...we all love to read them.

I suppose there have been 3 or 4 weeks of classes depending on whether you include the first "buffer" week.
