2 weeks already!

September 17, 2007 - Oxford, United Kingdom

It's crazy to believe I've been here 2 full weeks and am going into my third week at Oxford! Most recently I've been to Christ Church, a beautiful cathedral where they have Even Song, a night of sung liturgy. I also went for open visitors day yesterday, where the parts of Christ Church that are usually closed to the public (it's a college as well) are open free of charge. Louis Carrol was inspired by the college, and scenes from Harry Potter were also filmed there.

I also went to Blenheim Palace, which was a gift to John Churchill, the Duke of Marlborough, for his victories in the Battle of Blenheim. It is GORGEOUS and words or pictures cannot capture its full grandeur. Incidentally, it is also the birthplace of Winston Churchill, Prime Minister during World War II and in the 1950's. He is a member of that honorable family, and his mother gave birth to him in one of the rooms as he was 6 weeks premature.

The city of Oxford itself has so many sights and sounds from all over the world. On my way to Christ Church yesterday I saw some people doing Capuera, a Brazillian form of dance and martial art. A few blocks down a group from Zimbabwe was performing, and there are Indian restaurants everywhere- but I still need to try this infamous "national food of England."

In between this I've been studying my head off for an upcoming test this week. And exactly a week from today I am flying to Spain and Morocco for travel week! I'm so excited but with the test coming up I have to put that aside for the moment.

Until next time...
