Summer school

June 19, 2008 - Bialowieza, Poland

Well, this has really been a cool time! An intense week of lectures with a lot of researchers from all over the world and Phd students coming for learning new things and giving their good ideas

An than, on night time, a lot of pivos…well, a really good time!

And this even give you a bit of courage…cause looks like that it’s possible to live out of this subject…and I’m even starting to reconsider the Phd option…ok, we will see.

Before coming here I would have never considered this possibility…but now, since I have to deal with all this very interesting persons that does exactly what they love(at least most of them)…I’m starting to be optimist again…for this anyway, most probably I will have to leave Italy…big deal!!

Anyway I still often thing to those that are gone…that are most probably the only one that are reading these few sentences in english ;) ...so hi Cyril, hi Milena!!

Maria and TomeckOk, to tell a bit more in detail about the summer school, the first night, we have had avery nice bonfire! We were not even supposed to be there, because we wanted to see the match Netherlands-Italy…actually I DID NOT WANT to watch it, but as you know, there’s many dutch students here…anyway, we just stayed at the bonfire cause it was really a lot of fun…as you can see from the video!

Interesting was even the last day when we went again to Bierbza…ok, actually was not moreinteresting that the others days, but at least here I can put some pictures, while I cannot do it for the normal days of summer school!cows crossing Narewka river in Bierbza

cows.JPGSo you can see some cows crossing Narewka river (it was where we were at last, when we went together, Cyril and Milena, where we have the funny picture from thewatching tower).

This cows does that twice a day and they say that this village is famous for that, and actually there was somebody taking videos…I still don’t see what’s so strange in cows crossing the river..but never mind!

The forest is still beautiful…every few weeks it changes and shows another beautiful and different face…it was white of anemome in early spring and now is so green…such a very green, green!

And a lot of flowers, but outside the forest!

A news for Milena…biomass cutting has started already and, I know that it’s hard to belive, but it was going to be much worst than the last one…because until yesterday what we known was that we had to recognize EVERY single species in EVERY 40 plots…and yesterday we’ve done it like that…something like 2or 3 hours for a very quick plot in the forest!

Fortunately Leif talked to his supervisor and he managed to make her change her mind…so it’s going to be exactly like last one…at least not worst!

As I’m keeping on writing in English I realize that I don’t feel like translating it in Italian…so if anyone of my Italians friends it’s not in agree, just tell me,and I will write it in Italian…ok, this means that you (Italian friend) have to had red up to here…and maybe you didn’t…I will write just one sentence in Italian, just to say that, so

SE QUALCUNO DEI MIEI AMICI ITALIANI PREFERISCE CHE SCRIVA IN ITALIANO, DITEMELO,SE NO QUESTO JOURNAL, NON LO CAMBIO!

Ok, i wouldsay that’s it!

Bye bye, every one!!

Hi Enrica!
Thanks a lot for writing in English!!! That`s really great!!!
I´m glad to read that summer school was big fun for you - I´m a little bit jealous that I missed that, to be honest... but, anyway, it sounds that this week of interesting new experiences gave you new motivation for your research and even for your afterwards career - that`s amazing!
What you wrote about biomass really sounds horrible... I´m happy for you that she changed her mind and you don´t have to divide EVERY SINGLE herb anymore (or whatever)....
I´m also still thinking of you, Cyril and all the others... and of course of our unique and wonderful forest! ...but perhaps I´ll come back one day... who knows? And - we will meet again, that´s for sure! Have a great time, see you! Milena
