I've literally wanted this for years, and now I'm here: Australia. The flight from Singapore to Sydney went extremely well, apart from the fact that we had to actually get off the plane in Adelaide, only to be let on again about an hour later. Of course that meant going through more security checks... argh. Did learn something in Adelaide (a city I'll return to early April, but more on that later): ask for a coffee and get coffee with cream. Argh. Awful. I think a regular coffee's a 'tall black' or something.
First impressions of Sydney... well, I haven't seen much, I really haven't. I can't even point out our hostel on the map, so whether I'm in the more fashionable part of the city or in the slums remains to be seen. Don't think it's the latter though. The YHA hostel is quite posh, especially for something that caters to backpackers. It's a huge hostel with, as far as I can tell, all facilities one could need. Not exactly my idea of a backpacker's hostel (I've got far smaller, far less, errr, clean for one, things in mind with that), but I'm glad I've got five nights here. They seem promising from this end of night one.
Right. The city itself. Like I said: don't know much yet. That is why my very first impression was 'jus another city'. I know it's almost blasphemy to utter those words about the grand and magical city, but I wasn't impressed. That is probably going to change tomorrow, when I (we) go explore the more well-known sides of Sydney.
Final words for this post: today I saw a dream of mine come true at last. And that alone makes all of this well worth it.

Tof dat je er (eindelijk) bent... Gefeliciteerd, joh...
Geniet ervan, maar er een mooie tijd van...
Het ga je goed,
Niels...
