Going WWOOFing!

April 17, 2008 - Adelaide, Australia

I have had enough of cities. Two months in Australia and all I've seen is city, city, city. Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide... it's time to get out! See something of the country! Today, Eric is going WWOOFing. WWOOF stands for Willing Workers on Organic Farms. Basically, you live in with a family at a farm, do general farm work for about 4-5 hours a day and in return, you get a bed and your meals provided. It's an easy and cheap way to see something of farming life in Australia. I spent quite some time on the phone yesterday, calling possible 'hosts'. Most of them either didn't pick up or already had their fill of WWOOFers, but one managed to provide me with the phone number of a brand new host. They weren't in my January 2008 list! So I called them and they can squeeze me in... today! I'm being picked up at around 4pm to be whisked off to the farm. I have no idea where I will end up, but I will find out as soon as possible. I reckon it's about one, maybe two, hours from Adelaide, so I won't be in the middle of nowhere. I don't know what I can expect from this, but I do know it will be a brand new and very exciting experience, not to mention something very Aussie. :D

2 Hours from Adelaide.....you will be in the middle of nowhere. If it's north you might end up near the Flinders Ranges, Nice.
