I've been a telemarketer for two weeks now. I have found that (1) I'm not too good at manipulating people into something they don't want to do (probably because I don't really believe in selling mortgages) and (2) that people, with exceptions, are surprisingly polite to me. I've had a few 'no, fuck off' responses, but they're a minority. Most people just say they're not interested and hang up. One lady even started with 'I hate to do this to you, but...', which I thought was ludicrous. There is such a thing as going too far. Ah well, it's better than being called all kinds of names (has also happened a few times).
My days have more or less been the same. I wake up at around nine am, have breakfast, go to the centre to do whatever needs to be done, get back to the hostel, have a cup of coffee, watch some daytime TV (damn, there are a lot of cop shows in this country!), have a late lunch, go to work. When I come back at around 8:30pm, I cook and eat dinner (if I can be arsed, that is), watch some more TV before going to bed. That's it. That's all I've been doing on weekdays. But I'm fine with it. It hasn't bored me yet and I know I'm earning money. Money I'll probably spend on gear for the Bibbulmun Track.
Oh yes, I'm going to walk the Track. Not all of it, of course. Right now I'm planning on walking from Walpole to Denmark and then, if I have time (and feel up for it) continue on to Albany. I'm expecting to walk for a week to ten days. I've heard that it's possible, especially in winter, to not see a person all day. Now that's what I call being alone! Of course there are some risks involved in that, but I'll minimise or eliminate them as much as I can. I'll be right!
- Whitsundays, Kroombit, Fraser...
- Cairns, the Reef and Maggie
- The Alice!
- Oh no, not again.....
- Eric goes bush!

(Yes, terrible joke, but I seem to have been the first one. Hurrah!)
