The circle is complete...

July 8, 2008 - Sydney, Australia

I am back where I started... Sydney! Had a 6am flight (for which I had to wake up at 03:30, ugh) and now I am back at my last hostel in this city. It was a feast of recognition. Look, there's Scruffy Murphys, the Irish pub I love just for the name and where I had my first proper night out. Look, that's the Thai restaurant where I had food that was waaay too hot for me. Look, there's the WTC, where I had the introduction all those months ago. Look, the very first hostel! The Starbucks where I had coffee and a muffin on a lovely warm day... you get the picture. It's almost like coming home, except for one thing: I wouldn't want to call Sydney home. Not my favourite city. But all the memories that have been flooding back are bringing a smile to my face. It's only four and a half months ago that I arrived here, so very unsure of what this trip would be like, but it seems like more than a few lifetimes ago. I have done so much in the meantime. And I am leaving this wonderful country tomorrow. *sobs* I'm excited about going to New Zealand, but my time in Australia (apart from two days after NZ to sort things out) is almost over.

I can tell you now that if I can help it, I'm coming back, either on a tourist visa or as a permanent resident (oh yes, it's been on my mind). I am not done here yet.

Have fun in NZ. I want to visit there, someday. If only so I can canoe through the same river filmed in LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring. ^^;;

Oh, Scruffy Murphys. Many a night of debauchery has started in there.

Totally with you on the whole permanent resident thing.

Thinking about coming back as a permanent resident huh? Cool...you know, that same thought has crossed my mind too. Although there is another country involved, obviously...

Enjoy your last weeks there!!! Lemme know when you get back. We all might get together in Sally's for a few pints of guinness and some good stories!

Adios,
