Well the rain kept going... and going. It's amazing how much this can effect your perception of a city.
The day we spent in Prague was good, but not great. Which was not through trying, we had our guide book with a basic plan, then went to tourist information to be sure we weren't missing anything. We even managed to hear the music of the clock tower in the main plaza by accident, surely we were on to a winner....
As we walked towards Prague Castle, the buildings tower over you with the most interesting frescos and sculpures and the sun began to peek out. But just as we started to pull the zips down on the jackets, it became dark and the rain poured down. We ran into St. Vitus Cathedral and had a good tour, where every king became a saint in case you're interested, but you had to run in the rain to the next section of the castle. The last bit was in a lane, Kristina hadn't made the connection with the name, Golden Lane, and was none too happy at standing in the rain looking at a lane.
Time for lunch! And a quick squeeze out of the wet jackets. We decided the next stop was to the Jewish Quarter, which also meant we could wander around some Synagogues out of the terrible weather, unfortunately the Jewish Quarter had other plans and were on holiday! All closed. We tried, we really did to be as cultured in Prague as possible but enough was enough, where are the bars!
We stopped in a couple of good bars for a good couple of drinks and then headed back on the subway to the campsite. We considered trying again tomorrow and heading back into the city unfortunately the weather forecast told of even more rain, so Prague it just wasn't meant to be. It's time to move on and off to Plzen we go.
Just a quick night halt to see the Pilzner Urquell brewery and jumping on tram 1 we headed into the town, the tour was good and ended with a drink, brewed from traditional methods taken from the old kegs. We stood in the cellar and Chris and many other tourists agreed that that was a better drink.
Our high adventure of that day was that there were alot of signs on the tram stops which, after waiting awhile, we discovered meant that our tram was cancelled. We were stuck in town, somehow or other, we still don't know how, but we decoded that there was a replacement bus down the road and we saved ourselves the hour and a half walk uphill back to the campsite!
Next stop Deutschland!
