Onwards and Downwards

January 10, 2008 - Canberra, Australia

Before leaving Pearl Beach we spent a day in world famous Sydney Harbour doing many of the things that tourists do. By then the sun (yes, the sun at last!) and heat caught up with us and it turned out to be an exhausting), but marvelous, day (too big a city and so little time!!). It really is a busy, fascinating port. The Opera House, botanical gardens, a tour of a destroyer and submarine, and a ride to Manly Beach took most of the day. By then we could only think "where's the ice cream?".
The following day we moved down the coast to sleepy Sussex Inlet to visit friends and were welcomed with a boat tour of the town's canals and local beaches. They own a caravan park there (in Canadian read trailer park). Talk about a nice location! After being fed and watered we puttered on through Kangaroo Valley to Goulburn where Nancy taught little Aussies in 1992.
We dropped by the school where she revisited her classroom (she still refers to it as hers -- sort of like the house that WE own) and HER house where she temporarily lived for a year. Once again we were offered wonderful Australian hospitality in Goulburn and that evening were witness to a very rare thunder and lightening show accompanied by torrential rainfall and high winds to the point where the windows of the house buckled. However everybody seemed rather typically nonplussed about it. As a matter of fact table discussion of the Australian/Indian cricket match of several days ago raised blood pressure more than the storm!
We've organized stops at hostels for the next three or four days before we tackle the Nullabour Plains. Bye for now; we'll be in touch when we determine what internet access we'll have.

Aren't you folks going to visit Tom and Angie at this
time?

Glad you are finally getting some good weather. One
expects that in summer - whether in Canada or Australia.

Yesterday Tobi dropped the girls off just after 8 a.m., Bruce picked her up - he had already picked up
Bill and Kenny and they went skiing -- practicing for the Birky - which is the day we leave.

Then they took us out for dinner to Ling Nans -- it was great. The kids were good - Dad had them out
in the shop - dumped his garbage box of wood out and they made signs, etc. He has invited them to come and build a birdhouse sometime -- he did tht with
Isabel one time when Bruce was away.
Today I am going to see Enchanted with the Keyes gals
and Dad is cooking . Griff is with his folks in BC.

Do they have ciber cafes there? I know in Portugal
they have a lot of them, but it isn't very high speed Also some places just have one computr off in
a corner that they rent out.

How long is the drive across the Nullabour -- Make sure you have lots of oil, etc. in your vehicle.

Sounds like all is well, are you going to visit the fairy penguins again?

All is good in St. Albert, we need a bit more snow and a bit colder - today almost reached 0 Monday and tuesday are to be above 0, but then when it cools off wee will get the snow. Bel and Sophia say hi and to travel safe, Sophia said she liked Austrailia last time she was there - it had a dragon.

In other news the maple leafs are about the worst team in the NHL and the Oil continue to try to climb out of the basement - they will lay a whuppin on the Flames tonight so that will help.

All our best,

bn

Enjoying the log and the photo's. Thanks:) I especially like the new wheels photo, but try not to look like your having too much fun!!!!

We've been enjoying the lovely Canadian weather, making the best of it with skiing. Nathan started ski lessons yesterday (under protest because he seems to have some of Brennan's self-confidence - read "superstar genes";). Turned out he enjoyed the lessons, and it gave Brad & I some time on our own on the hill. YEAH!!! Going to the Big & Rich concert tonight as part of my Xmas present from Brad.

Take care,
L. Michelle

Hey Boyd and Nancy. Mom and Dad were up for a meal and had a chance to read all your adventures and see your pictures, they were excited to see you guys. I have some pictures to scan in and send to you guys but you know me and my technical skill that will take some time. We have had up to 4 storms in a week in and half lots of 24 hr shifts at the Hospital. The country looks awsome along with some neat wildlife. You guys should send that picture to Toyota it looks like a great comertial clip. I would still buy a new Honda though LOL. Sounds like turning left is easier then right you should be ok Boyd since you are a lefty. I hope when you return to racing you can drive right oops!! I mean in the right lane. Great to hear from you guys hope you continue good health and have fun!!

BE WELL!!!!

Hi!

Well I think I'm loosing - just tried scrubbing a large mark off the kitchen floor - but here it was a shadow of a bag I had hanging on the fridge door. Make no wonder it wouldn't come up.

Can't believe the ground you are covering - sounds like your having lots of fun. It's neat tracking your progress - and the pictures are great.

Chatted to Enid tonight - she sounds wonderful. She's coming up this weekend and staying at your folks (I'm getting feed again Friday and Saturday night - Yum, Yum!) I'll meet her Friday night and then we are hitting the big city on Saturday. We are starting with breakfast at the Blue Plate Diner in downtown Edmonton and it will all unfold from there. The Strathcona market,MEC,ice sculptures, mid afternoon desert at Vies For Pies, and whatever else we can fit in. Will be fun.

All is well in my world - lots on the go to keep me busy. If you get american movies watch the Great Debaters - a true story - it's fantastic.

Catch ya later.
