Kangaroo Island was our next major stop. As they say here, it was “a little blowy” and we were bounced around quite a bit on the 55 min. ferry ride. All you could see were waves one moment and all sky a few waves later. All Boyd could think of was our little Toyota being a bumper car below decks in amongst the larger vehicles. On the island we saw little fairy penguins coming up from the ocean as it got dark, and their young ones waiting among the rocks and bushes for a bite of regurgitated food. There were recent bush fires on the island which wiped out a lot of island’s forest but it didn’t slow us down too much. We clambered about the Remarkable Rocks (which were truly remarkable) and Admiral’s Arch . We walked among Australian sea lions on the beach, took a tour of some amazing limestone caves and visited a desert in the middle of the island called Little Sahara – 100 foot tall sand dunes that people toboggan or snowboard down. We took so many photos that we ran out of film (battery really) at this point!
