We're Here!!!!

February 1, 2008 - Albany, Australia

How ya goin' all

After getting our little certificate for driving across the Nullabor from the travel bureau we moved on and overnighted in Esperance -which is a beautiful town - and then arrived in Albany the day before Australia day (January 26).  Southwest Australia is quite different than any other part we've driven through. It's green and moisture abounds.....too much at times one might say. You can wash your car with a hose (you couldn't in other areas) and there's no rush to get out of the shower (4 mins is the suggested maximum elsewhere). On Australia day we wandered around town to familiarize ourselves, picked up a few staples for food, selected a couple books and relegated ourselves to the written word on the deck. Over the next few days we generally rummaged about.

On the 30th we were off to Perth to attend an orientation meeting. Now, Perth must be another word for "HOT".  It seems to be 36, 38 or 40 degrees C everyday. That's a little too hot for me (Boyd) but Nancy is dearly hoping more of it will make its way south.

Anyway, Nancy has started work: attending meetings and doing esoteric teacher things that I don't understand as well as scrambling to get her classroom ready for her 22 or 23 kids in a couple days.  I suspect that will occupy the upcoming weekend and we'll be ready to explore explore SW Australia the following weekend.  I'd best be looking for a job too; apparently the vineyards are starting to hire casual labor this time of year.....?????

Cheers

Glad to hear all is well, the trip sounds great so far. the weather sounds pretty good there. We had bigger numbers here but in the other direction, on monday morning in whitecourt it was - 41, tuesday was -44 - almost -50 with the chill from the little wind. it caused a total inversion and the fog was about the thickest i had seen. Not a single ford truck of mine started, but the chevy did and it was not plugged in all night. Wednesday was the first day back to work for one of my staff who went to Hawaii - she went through a 75 degree C temerature change in 24 hours - quite comical actually.

The girls all say hi, we are off to the pool today and then skiing tomorrow.

miss ya lots,

Hi!

Well I think your holiday is over this week - back to work. The weather's been crazy here - Brrr! Cold. Sam & Robin have had a crazy time on the other end as well with power outages and all. Good time to be in Australia. The tripping sounds fantastic but bet it's nice to settle in at last.

It's Sat and just been buzing around town doing erands - needed jeans and glasses so got both. Quiet evening tonight.

Catch ya later. Have fun.

Wow! It looks like you guys had a great holiday. I am envious seeing you in shorts & enjoying the sunshine. We are still suffering through freezing temperatures and I'm not sure if that silly groundhog has spring coming any earlier this year!(Enid thinks we have some silly holidays!) Send me a fax # so I can get some school stuff to you. Hope school is going well!
