A Weekend at Home

May 25, 2008 - Albany, Australia

Cheers all,

It’s been a weekend of several seasons.  After work on Friday, we went to a local coastline rock formation called the Gap, where the seas were starting to roll (2 to 3 metres) and the wind was picking up.  It was lots of fun to watch the swells hit the rocky coast and explode into the air in the narrow rocky gap.  With the strengthening winds, the parking lot a couple hundred meters inland was drenched with ocean spray (and so were we!).

Saturday started sunny but by noon low lying clouds had rolled in and it rained on and off all day.  We got to the local market before the rain, then drove out to Denmark (the town) and had a nice lunch with one of the teachers  from Nancy’s school.  It was lovely and we even managed a short walk/hike in between the raindrops later in the day.

Sunday reverted back to a sunny blue summer day and, after spending the morning gardening, we headed east and explored some local beaches we had not previously seen.  The coastline here really is magnificent with high rocky headlands and outcrops and long soft white sand beaches (too chilly for swimming right now).
