The Black Hills National Forest –

September 28, 2008 - Rapid City, South Dakota, United States

Location:  Near Rapid City, South Dakota, USA

There were lots of things to see in the Black Hills National Forest.  It is located near Rapid City South Dakota.

Our first stop was Mt. Rushmore, but on the way we headed down this funny highway with pigtail bridges.

Mt. Rushmore is a monument that features the heads of 4 of our presidents.  Can you name them?

I pretended I was part of the monument and put my face up with the presidents.

We made a stop at Custer State Park. There are over 1200 buffaloes in the park, but we didn’t see many of them because they have lots of room to roam.  There was a buffalo round-up scheduled the day after we left.  We did see friendly donkeys though.

We visited the Crazy Horse Monument too.  It’s a carving in the mountain of an Indian and his horse.  It is huge and has taken almost 40 years to carve so far, with lots of carving still to go.
