Getting settled

June 24, 2008 - San Cristóbal, Mexico

The very first day was probably the most stressful day I have ever experience but I have become a little more familiar with the city as well as getting to know my family. Starting to get to know all the other students now and it seems that everyone is really cool. We all went out last night and popped my tequila shot cherry. The bar was awesome!! It had great live music and a great atmostphere. I think this is my new favorite place! First of school was today and was pretty exciting but I feel like I am in elementary school again because we were learning colors all over again. Really pretty school and nice teachers. My family cooked for my for the first time today. It was pretty good. Gave presents to my family and the boys who are 9 and 6 went crazy over all the little dollar store toys I brought them. Didnt really expect the presents to be such a hit. Finally got internet in my room! So happy about that. I feel so far away from the world that having some kind of connection with my friends and family, helps with the anxiety of being alone. I'm not that close to my friends which really sucks but we are getting use to it. I feel a little akward hanging out with my family right now because I really don't know what to say to them. They are patient with me but I spend a lot of time in my room when I am home. Im sure it will get easier. The kids think I am so cool because they can say anything they want around me and I have no clure what they are saying. It's pretty funny! Anyways, another day at school tomorrow. I signed up for salsa lesson starting tomorrow. The school offers it for free which is pretty cool. Until next time!

Graffiti is one of my favorite forms of art. Not only can some of it be incredibly creative, but it can also give you insights into the political/social climate of a community. Perhaps asking your fam about some of the artwork may spark up a conversation.........? Glad to hear that things are getting to be a bit more tranquil. Gorgeous pictures by the way. Oh, and if you can manage to get your hands on a bracelet or necklace, we'll be best friends. Paz.
