Today was a great day! Found a great cafe with great food, and the food doesnt look scary! We all went to Chamula today, which is a surrounding Mayan village, for the biggest festival of the year celebrating a saints birthday...or something like that. I thought that San Cristobal was a huge culture shock until I arrived at this place. There were hundreds of drunks men stumbling around wearing some kind of robe made out of fur. It took us about ten minutes to realize that we were the only non Mexican people there. Seriously the ONLY ones there. We were quite popular and it was not a good thing. I have never felt more out of place in my life. San Cristobal seemed like a big modern town compared to this place. They were all Indians and most of them didnt even speak Spanish...there are so many different indian languages spoken here. We decided that we would make the best of out akward situation so of course we found a bar. after a few cuervas we started to get a little loud and without noticing we drew a HUGE crowd of people that just stared and laugh as us stupid Americans made fools of our self. We brought Dani's new room mate with us who is from Denmark and is traveling most of South America alone and stopped into San Cristobal to pick up some Spanish before heading down to Peru. She was really cool and it was really interesting to hear her talk about what her country thinks about America. Went back to our new favorite bar and had the best sandwich ever. My appetite is finally coming back...which is good because I have lost so much weight in the last couple days because I cant keep anything down. I'm starting to feel a little more confident being here and being with my family. I bonded with my family last night so I feel more comfortable hanging out with them. Everyone here are really nice and seem to be patient with us. I feel like we really stick out. I am so glad that I dyed my hair now!!
