Yesterday we all went to a true salsa dance club and it was really cool. I have never salsa before so I had no clue what I was doing, but no one seemed to mind how stupid I looked. I guess it wasn't that bad because I got to dance with some locals and I thought I kept up pretty well. It really help that I didnt understand what they were saying so brushing them off when they were hitting on me wasn't very hard to do. The Neniman, our professor, came out with us too and it was alot of fun. We also found this really nice bar owned by some really awesome Mexican hippies and they only play Spanish reggae. Wasn't feeling so hot getting up at 7 to go horseback riding but it was an awesome experience. About 8 of us and 2 guides took us through the mountains to the near by village called Chamula. The view was absolutly breathtaking. We got to see people in their fields farming and living in this really small shacks. The land is great for farming here because of all the rain and temperature making it easy to farm. It was the most painful and exciting 4 hour horseback ride I have ever had. When we got to Chamula, we all ate lunch and watched all the people in the market going about their day. All the kids are really pushy about selling us the stuff they had and will not go away unless you completely ignore them. It gets harder and harder to say no to these kids because they look so poor and desperate. We went to Chamula earlier in the week so we didnt really explore much but today it was interesting to watch how these people behave and live in such poor conditions. We are going to visit a canyon tomorrow in Tuxtla with the entire group. Its pretty hot in Tuxtla and as strange as it sounds, im looking forward to some warm weather because its been pretty chilly here.
