Road Trip

April 29, 2008 - Plainville, Massachusetts, United States

Sometime in early April:
(Fuzzy Recollection Version)

"Hey Francis, road trip to Boston, you in?"
"Uh yeah!  For sure!  When?"
"End of April"
"Uh, let me check my schedule.  Uh, I've got work"
"Aw, that's too bad"

A few days later

"I'm in"
"I thought you had work."
"Me too."
"You don't have to go to work anymore?"
"Neh.  It's just work."

Fast Forward to April 29th, 5AM. [Yeah, 5 bloody AM, when sane people are still asleep]
ROAD TRIP!!!

Nick and I fill up the empty tanks with petrol and coffee.  IMG_4350Honestly, running out petrol is one thing, but running without coffee is equally disheartening and painful.  We drive over to Toronto and pick up Lynn and Adam.  We're already assessing the situation.  The bad jokes have already started.  There still isn't a plan.  In fact, all I really know is that we're heading down to the US for a week and who I'm travelling with.  Details like what we're going to do and where exactly we're staying are fuzzy at best.  Not that those details matter all that much anyway.  Who follows the plan anyway?

IMG_4351We drive across Ontario to the border at Kingston, not Niagara to save on aggravation and to avoid traffic.  There was nothing exciting on that drive.  Nor was the drive from Kingston to Plainville, either.  In fact, driving along the 80, 90,195 and 495 were are horridly boring.  Perfectly straight roads with the same new growth forest all along the roads.  Highway hypnosis to the max.IMG_4352

You may have read Plainville, and thought to yourself, "What's there in Plainville?"
NOTHING.
It was our home base, where we stayed with Nick's cousin Wesley.  It was much closer to Providence than it was to Boston.  But hey, a free place to stay is a free place to stay.  But it was cozy and clean.  I'm used to sleeping on the side of the road or beneath a tree.  This place was the Hilton.

The surprise was when we got lost and stopped at a Shell Station.  And found none other than: Tim Horton's.  We were so happy.  We knew where we could go for our daily cup of life.IMG_4367
