Sunshine on the Sunshine Coast

June 15, 2012 - Byron Bay, Australia

Just got back from a mini break on the Sunshine Coast (1 hour north of Brisbane). We headed up on Wednesday evening to Caloundra and camped right by the beach - lovely holiday park - although not so fun sleeping in the back of the car again! Was totally worth it though as we got up early and went to Australia Zoo! Best zoo EVER!!!

The Zoo was, as you can imagine, full of crocodiles, as its the one Steve Irwin built with his family. I've never seen crocs so big! Scary, mean, looking things they are. Anyway lots of other cute animals..koala's, wombats (which we learnt, have solid bottoms made of cartilage which is how they defend themselves!), tasmanian devils, parrots, snakes etc etc etc. The best bit for me was the kangaroo walk...you walk through their pen and can feed and pet them. Got so many photos with them! They also did a wildlife show which was amazing - they had a huge jabiru fly from its enclosure to the stadium, lots of other birds and also crocs.

After a long day at the zoo we drove to Noosa and walked along the beach - gorgeous seaside resort.

Yesterday we spent a long time driving unfortunately. We went to a few places, expecting there to be lots to see and there wasn't. So after the entire day in the car we decided to head home, tired and fed up! We still got to see the two towns I wanted to visit so thats OK I guess.

All in all a very long two days away and now back at the house with lots of work to do still so fingers crossed for good weather so we can get outside!
