Made it - via megabus, tube, 2 planes, lift off a stoned South African and 40 hours no sleep. made it though. mint.
Where do we start? Flew via Nairobi, did the Uncle Paul trick and got double gin and tonics on the plane and touched down in Dar Es Saleem as we looked over stunning turquoise seas. Stayed in the Young Women's Christian Association last night. very clean, great if you like fearless mice, AK47-equipped guards and Maude on reception. Ran into a few travellers, just the typical ones - enthusiastic volunteer, God people and the archetypical hippie.
Apologies for the syntax and the chronology of this, the first of our blogs, but computer is crap: Editting and spell checking is out of the question. First impressions of Dar - busy, wet (and by wet we mean monsoon weather which really isn't supposed to happen in June), warm and a pretty scary place to touch down.
Amusing anecdote 1 - sleeping on a plane: everyone knows sleeping on a plane in economy is not easy at the best of times, but loz found an interesting way of getting around this - kneeling down on the floor, facing the wrong way and sleeping on the seat. a sort of reverse brace position which got him a good few hours kip.
Well, seeing as though we've only been here for a day and that this blog is really only a 'i'm safe, mum' entry, we'll end it there and promise something much more interesting next time. Off to the beach now, those who know us well will also know our lack of tan is something to be fearful of. Nice food, nice ale, people saying 'my friend' just about all the time - first impressions are all good
Smell you later
Loz and Frank
