Culture Shock is Wearing Off

May 11, 2007 - Córdoba, Argentina

Yeah, so Jessie, Kristen and I had an adventure yesterday afternoon of shopping. We were trying to find jeans and it was really hard to try to figure out what we needed to say. I think we were the highlight of those salesgirls´life though. Apparently Americans, even ones who speak Spanish, are amusing.

Last night we had tango lessons and all 3 of our guys that I danced with kept leaving me and I didn´t get to practice except for with one of the instructors. Later we just stood around and watched certain people do it though, and I got to dance a little bit then, even if I was the one leading the guy because I knew what I was doing. Oops.

After the lessons we all went out together. Quite a few people were drunk, and I know I´ve said this to most of you before, but watching drunk people is amusing. Actually, talking to drunk people is even more amusing. When we left though my roommate had a little bit of trouble with a guy who had been trying to hit on her and he was trying to follow us. One of the guys in our group was pretending to be her brother, but it didn´t help much because he was one of the most drunk ones there. Then one of the other guys from our group who speaks fluent Spanish (well, almost) came out to help us along with one of the guys we had met who was actually very nice, and sober. The two of them attempted to talk to the guy to get him away from my roommate. Then he ended up walking us up two blocks so we could catch a taxi on the one way street that actually went towards our Barrio so we wouldn´t have to pay extra to go around.

Stuff really isn´t all that expensive here though. I was looking at purses yesterday and they´re like, 40 pesos at the most which is about 12-13 dollars. I´ve had Argentine steaks for 17 pesos or just about five dollars too. It´s crazy how cheap stuff can be, but I love it.

Classes are still going well, even if some things are starting to be a little bit more difficult.

I´ve been taking pictures, although it doesn´t seem like too many yet. I´ll probably take alot this weekend though because we´re going up in the Sierras and staying up there at a campsite type thing.

I guess that´s all for now.
