Hello Friends!
Sorry for leaving you in the balance and not blogging for so long, but it was sooooo expensive in Switzerland to use the internet (£5 an HOUR.. no lie!!) we decided to save our pennies and do a couple of blogs when we next could... so TADA! We'll start in Munich (Munchen for German lovers) and work our way forward, are you sitting comfortably???
Our trip to Munich was a great success a second time round, we had book 2 nights in an adequate hostel (but moved somewhere nearer the station for our 3rd night). There was a Bayern (football) game in town that weekend, they won the league cup so the the the town was pretty packed and partying German style (Litres of beer and Bratwurst!). After a restless first night of some teenage football fan spewing in our room we moved to a quieter dorm and decided to do a city bike tour. It was ace! We were shown the best of Munich, including one of Europe's biggest beer gardens (as you can see you booze is a big part of German culture). We learned that bike riding and beer drinking don't alway go hand in hand, especially when there isn't a toilet on every corner! That night the town was heaving and there was a great atmosphere. We headed into the centre (after a short rest at the hostel) and joined in the festivities (it would be rude of us not to drink more beer). We were accosted by a drunk singing tramp who couldn't speak English but continued to talk/spit anyway, we just nodded and said 'ja'. Leanne can't hold her ale, as you can see by the pics, but it was all in good fun.
The next day (a Sunday in a very Catholic city... everyone is down the pub) we wandered back to the bike tour beer garden through the beautiful Englisch Garten in the hope of finding food and drink. However, we were unsuccessful as it was raining and most of the food stall were shut so that left us with no other option... we had to drink on empty stomachs. It wasn't all our fault though, we had good intentions of heading back to find food, but once again we were accosted by German drunks! Our new friends (practising lawyers) were delighted to tell us -in their raspy voices but excellent English- that they had had no sleep, and had been drinking all night. We chewed the fat for a couple hours over a litre or so, talking about the Fawlty Towers German Episode (don't mention the war!) and German sunbed nabbers!
We had a fantastic time in Munich and would advise anyone to visit there especially when the football is on!
Bis Bald! xx
