Beer dregs & metalheads!

August 10, 2008 - Prague, Czech Republic

Hi everyone, hope everything is great with all of you...The time has come the spill the beans on what we've been doing this last week or so...ready?

We left the Ginger Monkey and headed by bus back to Krakow (we enjoyed it so much last time we thought it'd be nice to return and reminisce). Partying was kept to a minimum this time round though, we visited a really great old-fashioned bookshop/cafe on more than a couple of occasions. It made us want to own a similar shop one day, complete with coffee, cakes & lounge-jazz in the background...an excellent find. We also went to see an hour long Chopin recital one evening which was fantastic, even Leanne came away loving the speedy piano work.

After this relaxing time we headed by train to Wroclaw - northwest of Krakow - which was recommended by quite afew people. In our hostel we met three girls from St Andrews, Georgina, Zed & Danielle (metal fans who were road trippin' around Europe and who had just returned from a four day festival in Germany). They were hilarious girls...we had a bit of a drinky with them that evening and realised our paths were going to be crossing again in Dresden that following weekend. They had a gig to see in a venue outside the city and kindly invited us along. We said we definately would come and said goodbye to them for now. In the meantime we visited a beautiful Japanese garden and soaked in the atmosphere. There were also gnomes made of metal placed all over the town, so we had fun spotting them and taking their pictures.

We headed to Dresden afterwards - which was also a very beautiful place - and had a walk round the old town before we were scheduled to meet up with our new metalhead friends later. Seeing as it was completely flattened during the war, the buildings were rebuilt to the old style and looked very impressive. We hooked up with the girls and headed on an hour long road trip to Lichtenstein (not the country) to see a metal gig which was headlined by a Russian folk/metal band called Arkona. They were very good, but the gig didn't finish till 2am so by the time we returned to our hostel we crashed out in bed straight away due to exhaustion. Also the support acts were mainly death metal, so Leanne was at first horrifyed by the screaming and devil-worshipping but later got used it and even fell asleep in our booth at one point haha. We said farewell to our metaller friends for the last time this trip and caught the next train to Prague...

Our time in Prague will have to wait for the next blog because we're still here experiencing it, but have been enjoying it lots and will write again to you all very soon to tell more...Lots of Love xxx
