The weather was cloudy and looked like rain when i arrived but it was humid. You could see the change of landscape now, more mountains and very green. I found a good hostel on the waterfront 10mins walk along the boardwalk into the city.
Cairns is not really a big place but has plenty of things to do. I looked around but didn't have much time as it goes dark by 6pm.
In the morning i looked at some of the activites i could do round here, i booked a 1 night 2 day trip up to Cape Tribulation for the next day. The trip inclunded all the main stops along the way and plenty of free time to do what you liked when you got there.
The rest of the day i looked round the city and got a bus to the botanic gardens where i found a 7.5k walk to do in the rain forest it was really good as it was up a mountain and you went into really deep forest and the paths were not that easy to follow so made it more fun. I saw quite a lot of wildlife, nothing that dangerous i don't think. There were good views back into Cairns and of the airport! When i got back i saw cirns by night but its quite quiet.
So up early to get the bus at 7.20 there were about 18 people, the trip took us along a great coastal road before getting to Port Douglas a very upmarket small place. After this we passed through lots of sugar fields then rain forest in the mountains. We arrived at Cape Tribulation early afternoon so the rest of the day to explore. Five of us went for a walk in the rain forest looking for wildlife... we found it in the form of a huge snake (2.5m) in the water really close to us! It made us jump at first but was just minding its own business. We got a few pics then moved on quickly as we didn't know if it was dangerous or not! We saw a few big spiders and other small bugs before coming to the beach but it wasn't really beach weath so didn't stay that long. We went back to the hostel and made food and played pool and cards all night.
In the morning we had free time till 1.45 went the bus picked us up. We went for another walk firstly along the beach through a creek into the forest and over the hill to get to another beach and look out. This is the area where the rain forest met the sea (reef), really cool views and a nice relaxing place. This took a few hours then we headed back for lunch then getting the bus back. On the way back we went to a croc watch tour boat, where we only saw 2 crocs, 2 tree snakes and a tree frog. It was pretty good but not as good as the one in Darwin! We got back 7pm and a few of us went out and had a good night.
I only have today and tomorrow left to chill out in Cairns before flying to Singapore. Oz has been an amazing place but i'm looking forward to asia, a place with lots more culture!
My next update will be from Singapore.....
