Our day in kota Bharu was great we did a tour as most thigs were outside the city and the buses were few and far between. It proved to be the right option as it was a really good day. Firstly we headed towards the Thailand border to see a few thai temples, they were impressive! One of them was the worlds biggest reclining budda the other was a floting dragon!
Next stop was to a kite making place, didnt really know what to expect but it was really gooda guy in a small wooden building filled with kites doing his work, they were all amazingly designed and colourful. From here we went to a fishing village it was well out of the way the journy there was really cool, when we arrived meny of the boats had come back loaded with fish. The boats were painted with bright colours which added to the charm of the small place. We got back to the city and drove round to see a few more sights then got dropped at the bus station so we could book our bus to the Cameron Highlands in the morning! That night we went to a cool little food market to eat, loads of random stuff but i stuck to rice and veg! There was blue rice which looked dodgy!
The bus took us to Ipoh first it was about 6 hours to here then a further 2.5 hours to Cameron Highlands, the last part of the trip was an amazing drive in the mountains! We arrived about 6pm so a long day traveling but it seeded worth it as the place was really nice. We sorted out a tour for the next day only for the morning. It was really good we got to see loads of stuff and it was all and the local produce in the area. Firstly we went to a temple the to a stunning rose garden that went up a hill side so you were able to get a great view from the top. The next stop was a strawberry farm (there are loads of them) where we got to see there way of growing the fruit and sample some! mmmm! We them went to the tea plantations and a factory the company was called 'BOH' which is big in Asia but not exported to Europe, it was interesting to see how they made the tea and where it was grown.
Next was the Butterfly and insect place which was really cool. I got to hold a scorpion which was a bit scary! The last stop was to see the bee farm and taste the honey.
In the afternoon we all went for a walk but on different ones. I went on my own up the highest peak in the Cameron highlands 6666ft no messing around! The walk up was 3.5km most of it very steep with ropes to help to get up as it was more like climbing! I managed to get to the top in 45mins sweating alot! I wanted to go a different way down so set off in another direction but didn't have a map so wasn't too sure where i was going. I came back to the top and followed a road down but the sign said 14km to the town i needed to get to so i ran back mostly down hill but the last 5km was up! It was really good but was hard with a backpack and the heat. It was our last night so we went out to a resturant recommened locals. Most people had a dish called a steamboat where you chose what you wanted they brought over a stove and a hugh dish with two different soups and we cooked it our selfs. It was really good fun and very messy.
Next day we got a bus at 8am to Penang, it stopped at Butterworth and we got the ferry across to Penang island and the capital GeorgeTown we got here about 3pm very hot again. We found our accomerdation in chinatown pretty central which was good. We had a wonder around, it is a really nice place with cool buildings and loads of culture.
