Huacachina, Nasca & Arequipa

January 12, 2009 - Arequipa, Peru

Hello...

We left Cusco and arrived back in Lima to catch a bus to Ica it was about 4hrs! At Ica we got a taxi to Huacachina a very small place in the middle of the desert, it is an amazing place surrounded by massive sand dunes! Some of you will have seen the pictures on facebook!! We went sandboarding and in a buggy round the dunes! It was so much fun!Sunset on the dunes! We climbed a hugh dune to see the sunset, it was really windy so sand was going everywhere but was well worth it! We left in the moring and got a bus to Nasca, the drive was a few hours through the desert, a cool drive! The main attraction in nasca are the Nasca lines which you can only really see from a plane so it was a good job we had a flight booked for the next day, i was quite excited about this! We spent the afternoon looking round the town, there isn´t really that much there just a small scruffy town in the middle of the desert but it was good to look round! The next day we were up early to fly at 9! It was a very small place seating just 6 including the pilot! It lasted about 40mins, it was amazing to see all the lines and really unreal how these were done so long ago and are still there!! I was feeling a bit ify on the plance the tight cornering was quite rough, my head was a bit mashed when we landed but i was ok after a drink and a bit of a walk!Nasca lines! That night we were getting a night bus to Arequipa (second biggest city in Peru) it is surrounded by 3 volcanos and has some great views! The centre of the city is really nice we had a look at a few historical places and exporled a near by village with a watermill which was nice!El Mista Tomorrow we are going to Colca Canyon, its the worlds deepest canyon so should be stunning! We are staying a night in a small town near the canyon and coming back the next evening! Looking forward to this as we go along the highest pass at 4800m high!! All the details will be included in the next report!! (hope to add pics on here or facebook soon!)
