So today was another great day of London fun. I am probably going to make this entry short because I am using a friend's computer while she is at the pub; we are having major issues with my own internet access. Anyways, today was my first morning in London. My "mobile phone" woke me up at 7:30 and I opened my curtains-- what a view. After breakfast, an officer from the local burrough (I believe his name was Detective Peter) came and gave us a lecture on safety in London. He told us that theft is the biggest crime and that violent crime is very rare in our area (told you, Mom!) Also, he said that our neighborhood, the Royal Burrough of Kensington and Chelsea, is the wealthiest burrough in the whole of the United Kingdom! Maybe this explains the Ferraris parked on my street or the Lamborghini dealership a few blocks away...
We went to the Victoria and Albert Museum today but only stayed for a little while. I will definitely have to go back to that one. I had Yorkshire pudding for dinner and it was delicious; however, the minced meat inside was NOT. I bought my first round of groceries today at Sainsbury's. I have a recycled bag that I will carry every time I get groceries. Also, you bag your own groceries here. I was able to find food that I like-- mainly breakfast foods like cereal, toast, and granola bars. Same foods, different labels. Definitely fun.
Perhaps the most interesting experience of the day was meeting our next door neighbor, Roger. He is so cool and incredibly English. He told us all the great churches, libraries, restaurants, and places to visit while we are here. He is also very funny and is a member of a swimming club that swims in a lake every morning at 5:30-- and it's FREEZING!
Well, I am going back to my room because I would hate to be in my friend's room when she returns...
