WIckham River Crossing to Marella Gorge

September 4, 2008 - Marella Gorge, Australia

After waking up I first took a refreshing swim in the river and then had breakfast. After the daily checks of the Troopy I crossed the river and continued to the southern border of the Gregory NP. The track remained interesting with many dry creek crossings. The sousern border of the station is also the border of a station. From there on the track improved a great deal and after passing the station it became an excellent dirtroad which met the Buntine Highway at Kalkarindji, where I turned west.

After hundred kilometers o0r so on this road I had another flat tyre, the one which was repaired in Katherine. I lost count of the number of flat tyres I had sofar on this trip. I begin to consider to buy an tyre repair kit, since I plan a few more long and remote hauls. Since I could not detect a puncture on the outside I assumed that there was still something sharp at the inside of the tyre. This left me without spare tyres so I decided to go to Halls Creek, which is closer by than Kununurra, but still 270 km. Just hope I will not have another blown tyre before I reach Halls Creek.

I made camp near Marella Gorge. The gorge is down a rocky 4WD track again, I did not risk that because of the two flat tyres I was carrying and made camp close to the main track, here called Duncan Road, in a dry river bed. It is again a nice place.

The scenery has changed again to arid country. Also the weather is different. The air is cooler and very clear.
