Wallaman Falls to Blencoe Falls

July 20, 2008 - Blencoe Falls, Australia

The morning brought sunshine so I went back to the falls and the rock hole just behind the camp for some more photos. After a short while clouds developed again, the result is not quite what I intended.

From the Wallaman Falls I traveled to the Blenco Falls, underway passing through sugar cane fields and banana trees. I had a nice chat with a sugar cane farmer, who was monitoring the harvesting of his sugar cane. He was an Italian, still farming at the age of 70. He explained a bit about the growing and harvesting of sugar cane and told me that he had spend more holyday time in Italy then in Australia.

The track to Blencoe falls is an interesting mountain track. It is officially closed but unofficially open. The first part of the track is in very bad condition, it is single lane with a lot of holes. After climbing from sea level to about 650 metres the track improved but still goes up and down with many sharp curves. It took 2 hours to cover 70 km. The camp site was empty when I arrived and I remained the only visitor. Since I arrived late I did not visit the falls, that is on tomorrows program, weather permitting: the farmer in the valley said that substantial rain was expected for the next day.
