Blencoe Falls

July 21, 2008 - Blencoe Falls, Australia

Early in the morning I found out that the camp site is stretched over half a kilometers and that there where several other parties camping during the night. I later explored the whole camp site and moved to a great spot 10 meters away from the Blencoe River to spend another night at this place.

During the night it began to rain and up to this evening it rained on and off. Not the tropical rain but a drizzle. The temperature remains comfortable though. Rain in this area, also in the dry period is common. I am not far away from a town where it rains 250 days per year.

I walked the three kilometers to the Blencoe Falls, part of the walk was just in the clouds. The Blencoe Falls themselves were just free of the clouds. After the Blencoe Falls, the Blencoe River ends in the Herbert River. At this location it runs in a deep gorge. It was a good place to just sit and watch and listen. At times there was gusts of wind coming up from the gorge and sitting at about the condensation level, with each gust mist, or rather cloud was forming. It is a strange thing to look at the falls for some time. There is constant movement, yet nothing changes.

I made another walk in the rain and spend some time planning the route for the next days and doing some reading.
